Our Objections

Our objections against Bridget McConnel, Culture and Sport Glasgow
and the Glasgow City Council are as follows:
 |
Funding and Promoting the Abuse of Christ, the Bible
and Christians |
Culture and Sport Glasgow has funded and promoted numerous events
with what appears to be a deliberate and calculated attack on the person of Christ, the Holy Bible, Christians and
indeed against all decent, moral and ethical standards in general.
'Made in His Image' Exhibition
This so called 'exhibition', encouraged those who feel they have been
‘excluded’ from the Bible, to write themselves back into the Bible provided for that purpose.
Of course, as any sensible person would have been
able to predict, the pages were promptly torn out and all manner of nonsense and filth was written in the Bible
provided by those who have little love or respect for the Bible and what it says about their sin.
This exhibition was widely condemned bringing international shame on Glasgow
with almost all the media and religious authorities (of many
faiths) condemning this act of state sanctioned
vandalism.
Was the exhibition stopped - NO!
The Bible was merely placed in a glass case instead and visitors wrote their
comments on a piece of paper that museum staff would themselves place in the Bible for them.
Surely no reasonable person can ever consider something as tasteless and so
obviously offensive as this - as either culture or art - however 'edgy'
or 'leading edge' they may claim it may be!
Sadly it seems, however, that Glasgow City Council and Culture and Sport Glasgow
(CSG) do believe it is their place and duty to offend the public by supporting and funding these events. Not
only was it CSG who helped fund this monstrous exhibition (and others below) to the tune of almost £240,000.00, but
they have since refused to cease the funding of these offensive events or guaranteed to withhold funding of these
types of events and programmes in the future.
'sh(OUT)' Exhibition and
Events
Once again defacing the Bible was at the forefront of this
so called 'exhibition' and
a series of events about 'human rights'. One 'exhibit' was a video of a woman
tearing pages from the Bible, eating them and putting them in her underwear and every other imaginable place around
her body.
In addition to this,
there was also an explicit exhibition of what can only be described as homosexual pornography which these stewards
of YOUR money felt was suitable to invite local school
children to visit!
With such grotesque
events like 'orifice day' open to the public, one wonders
to what depths and
extremes CSG and Glasgow City Council will sink to, and yet
still continue to justify attacks on
Christ, on Christians, and on all moral
and right thinking people in the name of so called 'culture and art'!
Indeed when the
controversy about these exhibits made the news many of these events where withdrawn from the CSG website
indicating that even CSG acknowledged their content was
unsuitable.
Yet still Culture and Sport Glasgow refuse to cease funding events like
these, now or in the
future!
'Jesus Queen of Heaven' Play
This play was not only grossly offensive but totally inaccurate in it's portrayal
of Christ as a transsexual who 'loves everyone' regardless of their sin (breaking Gods Holy Law as summarised in
the Ten Commandments (Exodus Chapter 20)).
Once again it is hard to imagine any sane and upright person ever considering that
this play would NOT be offensive and insulting to Christians. Yet Glasgow City Council and Culture and Sport
Glasgow continue to insist that these events were never intended to offend.
Would CSG sanction such events
about the Koran or Islam?
Would CSG sanction such events about Allah, the Koran or other
religious founders and leaders? We very much doubt it and are thankful
for that. So why this concerted and calculated attack on Christ, His word
- the Bible and His people - true Christians.

Misusing of Tax Payers
Money
|
Since when has it been the states function to support and fund the offensive
or 'push the boundaries' of decency, or be culturally 'cutting edge' ?
NEVER - EVER - and NEVER should
be!
So to then discover that not only have CSG taken it upon themselves to offend
the largest single group in Glasgow (Christians - 65%), but they have done so by using significant sums of
YOUR tax payers money (see below).
Here is the basic text of a freedom of information request made to the
CSG.
'Through the freedom of information act I would like to request
a total amount of how much money, purely for 2009 has been spent on 'shOUT', 'Made
in His Image', Glasgay and Queen of Heaven'
from the Culture and Sport coffers'
Here are the figures in the response....
Shout including 'Made in His Image' -
£238,332 - comprising Scottish Arts
Council £40,500 and CSG £197,832. £500 of this sum went specifically as a contribution to the 'Glasgay' "Queen
of Heaven" production.
Remember this decision is made by a committee whose Chief Executive earns
£132,000.00 1 of YOUR taxes
!
So you tell us....
Should ANY tax payers money
EVER be used for ANYTHING so obviously offensive to such a large constituent of Glasgow's population
(65% Christian)
?

Employing & Maintianing Unsuitable
Staff
|
Despite admitting that the scale of outrage was so large it is impossible for
her to answer all the correspondence she has received on this issue ('Made in His Image' exhibition), Bridget
McConnell (CEO) has still refused to make any meaningful changes to CSG’s funding policies or promised to stop
funding these types of events in the future.
In fact she still continues to defend this outrageous abuse of Christ and the misuse of tax
payers money.
Surely no reasonable and right thinking person, particularly one with
public responsibilities, could possibly claim they never thought that these events and programmes would be so
grossly offensive to Christians. As this is exactly what Mrs McConnell claims, this indicates only two very
troubling possibilities – one, she knew in ADVANCE that these events and programmes would be offensive – but
proceeded anyway – or two, she lacks the necessary judgement required of such a high profile position by not
recognising what appears so obvious to most reasonable people.
With all this in mind is it unreasonable to ask if
Bridget McConnell has the competence, ability or even the common sense to hold this sensitive and high
profile post? Whilst she:-
- Misuses public funds in times of
economic hardship?
- Intentionally sponsors and supports programmes and events that would be so obviously
insulting and offensive to large sections of the public (65% of Glasgow claims to be
Christian)
- Shows her virulent
prejudice by continuing to defend this tax funded abuse and has offered no meaningful changes
to CSG’s funding policies despite the wide spread outrage.
- Cannot even fulfil Glasgow City
Council’s OWN stated aims to support diversity,
equality and respect for
all.
So Glasgow....... should such a person earn £132,000.00 of YOUR money and control a budget of £100,000,000.00 (one hundred million1) - only
to use it to abuse and insult the majority of you ?
Are Glaswegian's expected to simply sit back and accept (and fund) more events and
programmes so blatantly offensive to the person of Christ, His followers and all decent people?
We Say an Emphatic - NO?
If these are our objections -
what are our aims to rectify them?
